Staying Focused

Langston Hughes asked a powerful question in the title of his poem “What happens to a Dream deferred?” When we postpone the realization of our own ideas, visions, we must contemplate the consequence of our hesitation or procrastination. Had God already given us the cure to cancer, HIV, AIDS and we were so distracted by fear, pride, selfishness, and all the usual suspects that we refused to hear, see, and activate the fulfillment of the dream? And if God has already given us those last ingredients to accomplishing the objective, where are they now? For surely God would not take them back. And in what shape are they now in? The Promise Land is still the Land of Promise.

What happens to a Dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
