Be Thankful

Let today be a day of thanksgiving, a day of giving God thanks. As you consider all of your blessings, two questions come to mind:
What are we thankful for?
What should we be thankful for?

This is not to say that one set of answers should be greater or more important than the other. But it is to state that the second question should bring additional reasons for giving thanks. It should bring an increase to your list. We usually thank God for financial blessings, cars, houses, employment, and relationships. But shouldn’t we also consider those additional intangible things?

As the old saints used to pray:

“We thank you, Lord, for waking us up this morning and starting us on our way! Thank you Lord, that our bedroom walls were not our grave that our beds were not our cooling board; our blankets were not our winding sheet. We thank you Lord for the activity of our limbs; for a portion of strength and clothing us in our right minds.”

This prayer gives God thanks for health, strength, mental wellbeing, life, and continued mercy.

Again I ask us:
What are we thankful for?
What should we be thankful for?
